Purpose: Develop a fully or as close as possible offline navigation system independent of internet and cellular connectivity.
Features:
- Visual heading depiction.
- Track updates depending on location and travel.
- Various zoom levels.
- Marker drops of different color, label names and symbols.
- Persistent storage of travelled tracks and location names.
- Endurance based battery with easy charging.
- Large geographic area for long range travel.
- Integrate navigation with touchscreen.
Narration:
Being that I love disaster shows, prepping, and camping, I decided that it’d be cool to develop a NAVigation COMMunicationS device to not only facilitate long range travel, but have a system that doesn’t require a yearly subscription or downloading a narrow section of a state every time I wanted to travel, which I typically forget. I also wanted a way to integrate the navigation with either a local or global communication network to communicate during an emergency or with friends if we were separated by choice or circumstance. The comms if local should cover several miles with each NAVCOMMS being able to send/receive and relay data if they’re synced. There should be a way to include specific NAVCOMMS units as a utilized relay and basically work as a text only phone. It won’t be a smart phone, just a not-as-dumb phone.
Eventually I’d like to include the capability to hook up NAVCOMMS into other compatible systems for remote sensor detection and control. The first thing my mind goes to is drones, signal relay and monitoring devices, cache- stores and other camp-based/ austere environmental sensors. If the map can be integrated with their location and alerts picked up for the status of whatever is being monitored that would be great. More will be posted soon.
